You have a choice of materials:

  1. Pre-finished (stained at the factory)
  2. Unfinished (stained on site)
  3. Several types of wood and grains

Flooring is a significant piece of our home remodeling expertise. It makes sense, doesn’t it? We know how to prepare a room for renovation; we know wood; we know manufacturers. We know what it takes to provide professional service and perfect results. We know you will be as satisfied as our roster of clients who have chosen us for wood floor installation.

How to decide between pre-finished or unfinished wood

Unfinished wood
is also referred to as “bare wood”. It is cut, sanded and finished on the job site, after the floor has been fitted and secured. Some homeowners have been told this is very dusty. But we are able to utilize dust containment techniques to reduce that concern. It will take more time for bare wood floor installation than for prefinished wood. Job site sanding and finishing can take several days to a week, depending on room size, the stain you choose, and the sheen you have selected, which is determined by the number of finishing top coats. Finishes are oil or water based. When properly maintained, unfinished wood is exceptionally long-lasting, and the planks come in an array of thicknesses and widths.

Prefinished wood is tough and durable, and it is becoming a dominant floor product. Ease of installation and the quality of the product make this type of hardwood floor extremely fashionable. Installation is somewhat easier than unfinished wood. It has been stained at the factory and so sanding is unnecessary. Manufacturers offer moldings, accents and borders, and the planks themselves come in various widths and thicknesses, which allows for a limited amount of customizing.

  • Some people have heard that you can only schedule wood floor installation during certain months. It’s an urban legend. While humidity and temperature affect wood, inside most homes there is little through the seasons, because modern heating and air conditioning also handle humidity levels. Forget what you may have heard about needing to find a “sweet spot” of temperature or humidity. The sweet spot is our professional, skilled wood floor installation.
  • If it remains a concern, there is an answer: You may choose to have your flooring “acclimated”; the hardwood is stowed inside your home for a few days to a week before we come to install it. Bringing the hardwood inside the home allows the wood to acclimate to conditions in your home.

Regardless of the type of floor you select, we need an empty room to do the work. You’ll want to decide if you want your things moved to other rooms in your home, or removed and stored. We are happy to help with moving and storage of your furniture and personal items to best protect them during this time.
